The news is out that Walking Dead alum, Sonequa-Martin-Green has been cast as the main character in the upcoming reboot of the TV franchise. What makes this so relevant, is the fact that it is the first time that an African-american has taken top billing in any Star Trek series.
The immediate reaction to this is whether her character will be killed off on the AMC series. The current belief is no, or at least according to the folks over at Blastr.
This casting, along with Michelle Yeoh “Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon” and the recent announcement of the casting of an openly gay character, cements and extends Gene Roddenberry’s belief that space exploration will be entirely inclusive, and not the pervue of the middle aged white male.
